Terms of service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of SignItNow—our websites, apps, and related services that let people start petitions, sign, comment, share, promote reach, and (where available) raise or donate funds (collectively, the “Platform”). By using the Platform, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines.

If you’re using the Platform on behalf of an organization, you represent that you’re authorized to bind that organization to these Terms.

1) Accounts & eligibility

  • You need an account for most actions. Keep your password secure; you’re responsible for all activity on your account.

  • If you suspect unauthorized use, contact us at contact@signitnow.org.

  • Minimum age: 13+ to use the Platform; 18+ to start or receive funds via a fundraiser.

  • Provide accurate, complete information and a valid email address. Don’t impersonate others or transfer your account.

When you sign or start a petition—or contribute to a fundraiser—we may create an account for you so your activity is associated with you.

2) Your content & conduct

You’re responsible for what you post. You must follow the Community Guidelines and applicable laws, and respect others’ rights.

Don’t post content that is illegal; threatens violence; harasses; incites hate; invades privacy; infringes intellectual property; spreads malware; or facilitates fraud or other unlawful activity. Don’t misuse the Platform (spam, scraping, interfering with security, etc.).

Enforcement. We may edit, limit, or remove content; restrict features; or suspend/terminate accounts that violate these Terms or our policies. We try to notify you when feasible but aren’t obligated to do so.

3) Public nature of petitions & comments

Most petition content (title, text, media, target, signature counts) is public. “Reasons for signing” and comments may be public unless you choose available privacy options at sign. Think carefully before posting information you wouldn’t want to be public.

4) Your rights & the license you give us

You keep ownership of the content you post. To operate and promote the Platform, you grant Slatehaven Ltd a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license (with the right to sublicense) to host, store, reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, display, distribute, and create derivative works of your content in any media now known or later developed. This includes formatting/optimizing content (e.g., shortening titles, generating previews), promoting wins, and syndicating with partners.
You promise you have the rights needed for us (and our partners) to use your content as described, without payment to you.

We’re not a content-archiving service. We may not store content forever—keep your own backups.

5) Sharing & third-party services

You may share petitions and public pages for non-commercial purposes and without altering attributions. When you use third-party services (e.g., social embeds, external links), their terms and privacy policies apply. We’re not responsible for third-party sites or services.

6) Promoted reach & donations (non-fundraiser)

Supporters may chip in to expand a petition’s reach (“Promoted Petitions”). These are advertisements that show the petition to additional potential supporters on SignItNow and/or distribution channels. We provide estimates of additional reach; actual delivery can vary (e.g., if a petition wins, becomes inactive, or violates policies).

Donations made to support promoted reach are processed by our payment partners (see §9). We may provide feedback on incremental exposure achieved.

7) Fundraisers (creator responsibilities)

Where enabled, petition starters can raise funds for campaign-related activities (printing, events, outreach, etc.). If you start a fundraiser:

  • You are responsible for the accuracy of your statements and for using funds as described.

  • You must deliver any stated benefits/perks; disputes are between you and contributors.

  • If you raise funds for a third party, you warrant you’re authorized to do so.

  • Contributions may be taxable; you are responsible for any taxes or reporting obligations.

  • We may charge transparent service fees and you agree to the posted fee terms when creating your fundraiser.

  • We may limit, pause, or withdraw funds for policy or legal reasons (e.g., fraud, illegal purpose, guideline violations), and may assist with refunds at our discretion.

We don’t endorse or guarantee any fundraiser and are not responsible for outcomes.

8) Open platform disclaimer

The Platform hosts content from many viewpoints. We do not pre-screen, fact-check, or endorse user content (including petitions, comments, endorsements, or fundraisers). Use the Report a policy violation tool or contact contact@signitnow.org if you believe content violates our policies or the law.

9) Payments

We work with payment processors—currently Stripe for cards and Braintree/PayPal for PayPal—to process contributions, promoted reach, memberships, purchases, or fundraiser payments. By paying, you agree to their terms.

  • Use a valid, authorized payment method.

  • Prices/fees and any taxes will be shown at checkout.

  • Unless a specific refund policy applies (see below or product page), transactions are final.

  • Charitable deductibility depends on the receiving entity and your local law.

Refunds

For promoted-reach donations or mistaken charges, we may offer refunds within 3 months—see the applicable Help Center article or email contact@signitnow.org with your receipt and petition link. Fundraiser refunds are handled by the fundraiser starter unless we intervene under our policies.

10) Intellectual property & copyright

If you believe content on the Platform infringes your copyright, send a notice including: (a) your contact info; (b) identification of the copyrighted work; (c) the URL(s) of the allegedly infringing material; (d) a good-faith statement of unauthorized use; and (e) a statement under penalty of perjury that you’re the owner or authorized to act.

11) Acceptable use & technical restrictions

You may not:

  • access non-public areas, interfere with security, or test vulnerabilities;

  • circumvent rate limits, scrape or harvest data except as allowed by robots.txt or an agreement;

  • send malware, perform DoS, or otherwise disrupt the Platform;

  • impersonate SignItNow communications or misrepresent your identity.

12) Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access, remove content, or reclaim usernames at any time for violations, legal requests, inactivity, non-payment, or technical issues. Upon termination, some information may remain visible (e.g., public petition records) as permitted by law and policy. You can stop using the Platform anytime.

13) Disclaimers

The Platform is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent allowed by law, [Company legal name] and its affiliates, suppliers, and partners disclaim all warranties (express, implied, or statutory), including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We don’t guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service, specific results, or the accuracy or completeness of user content. You access third-party sites and fundraisers at your own risk.

14) Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, [Company legal name] and its affiliates, suppliers, and partners will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; lost profits, data, or goodwill; or personal injury arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Platform—even if advised of the possibility.
Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of USD $100 or the amount you paid to us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits; some above may not apply to you.

15) Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless [Company legal name] and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, and costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from: (a) your content; (b) your use of the Platform; (c) your violation of these Terms or law; or (d) your fundraiser activities.

16) Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We’ll post changes here and update the effective date. Material changes may be notified by email or in-product notice. Your continued use means you accept the updated Terms.

17) Dispute resolution; governing law; venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of [governing law, e.g., State/Country], excluding its conflict-of-laws rules.
Before filing a claim, you agree to send a “Notice of Dispute” to [postal address] and contact@signitnow.org and work with us in good faith for 30 days to resolve it. If unresolved, claims must be brought in the courts located in [city/region], and you consent to that venue and jurisdiction. If a court finds any provision invalid, the rest remains in effect.

18) Government & public-sector accounts

We recognize some government entities may be unable to accept all clauses (e.g., indemnity, governing law). For verified public-sector accounts in applicable jurisdictions, those clauses apply only to the extent permitted by law.

19) Miscellaneous

  • No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision isn’t a waiver.

  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them.

  • Entire agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and posted policies are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Platform.
