The Issue
We, the residents and supporters of Lake Whitney, strongly oppose the proposal to lower the lake’s conservation pool to 512 feet in order to supply the DFW10 private data center. This plan would give away 5 million gallons of water every day for 30 years—over 168,000 acre-feet of public water.
If approved, the consequences would be devastating:
- Boat ramps and marinas would become unusable.
- Fish and wildlife habitats would be destroyed.
- Property values would collapse.
- Tourism would vanish.
- The ecological balance of the Brazos River Basin would be permanently disrupted.
- Communities would face increased drought vulnerability, lower water quality, and greater downstream flood risk.
- The local economy would be devastated.
This plan prioritizes private profit over the public good. Lake Whitney is a public water source that supports recreation, ecology, and flood protection—not an industrial utility for corporate interests.
We demand:
- Complete transparency from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Brazos River Authority.
- Independent environmental and hydrological studies.
- Genuine community engagement before any decisions are finalized.
Under Public Law 85-500 and NEPA, a project of this scale requires proper environmental review and public involvement—neither of which has been done. Transferring over 54 billion gallons of water to a private company is an irreversible decision with long-lasting impacts.
Lake Whitney belongs to the people. Together, we must protect our water, our environment, and our community’s future.
