What are Promoted Petitions?
Promoted Petitions are ads that help your favorite campaigns reach far more people on SignItNow and our distribution channels. Think of them like “boosted posts” — you (or the petition starter) can pay to show a petition to new, likely supporters beyond your immediate network.
How do I promote a petition?
After you sign a petition, you may see an option to “Chip in to promote.” Anyone can chip in — signers, supporters, or the petition starter.
What you’ll see:
- Chip-in prompt
Right after you sign, you’ll be asked if you’d like to help the petition reach more people. You can chip in, share on social, or skip. - Set your amount
Choose how much you’d like to contribute. We’ll show an estimate of how many extra views your contribution will buy. - Preview
See a preview of the ad (title, image, current signatures, and a “Sign” button). - Pay securely
Pay by card or PayPal. You can optionally save your details for faster checkout next time. - Confirmation
You’ll get a confirmation screen (and occasionally an offer to become a monthly supporter, which you can skip). - Done
Your contribution is converted into ad impressions that bring new eyes — and signatures — to the petition.
How do Promoted Petitions work?
- After signing, some supporters are invited to promote the petition to other SignItNow users.
- The more people chip in, the more people we can show the petition to.
- You control how much you contribute, and you can stop at any time.
- We provide feedback on the extra reach your contribution helped deliver.
Promotions complement free sharing (social/email) by delivering the petition to people outside your network — especially active changemakers across SignItNow.
How do promotions help petitions?
Every contribution helps us distribute the petition to larger audiences of action-takers. More reach → more signatures → more momentum — which can attract media attention, influence decision-makers, and move a campaign closer to victory.
As a petition starter, can I turn promotions off?
Yes. If you’re the petition starter and want promotions disabled for your petition, contact our Help Center and we’ll switch it off.
Note: When promotions are off, your petition won’t be recommended to other users via email or on-site placements.
Are promotions the same as fundraising?
No. Promotions are not a fundraiser for petition starters. They buy ad delivery so the petition is seen by more potential supporters. If you need to raise money for your cause, please use a dedicated fundraising tool; promotions serve a different purpose: reach.
Payments & security
- Processors: We use Stripe for card payments and Braintree/PayPal for PayPal.
- Data handling: Payments are processed under each provider’s Terms of Service. If you choose, Stripe may securely store your card for faster checkout next time. SignItNow does not store PayPal card details.
- Fees: We don’t add processing fees. Payments are charged in USD; your bank may apply currency or international fees.
Why does SignItNow charge for promoted petitions?
Sharing is free — and sometimes petitions go viral. Most need an extra push. Paid promotion lets us deliver your petition to more of the right people, which costs money to do at scale. We keep the core tools free for everyone by funding SignItNow through advertising and voluntary contributions like these.
Refunds
Not happy with a promotion? We’ll refund your contribution for any reason within 3 months of payment. Contact support to request a refund.
In rare cases we may not be able to deliver the exact estimated views (e.g., a petition wins, goes inactive, or violates our Community Guidelines). Please also follow applicable laws in your location when promoting petitions.
Reporting abuse
SignItNow is an open platform used by people with many viewpoints. We don’t fact-check or endorse user content, including promoted petitions. If you see content that violates our Community Guidelines, log in and use “Report a policy violation” on the petition page or contact our Help Center. Our team reviews all reports.
