The Issue
On Florida highways, three innocent people recently lost their lives in a horrific collision caused by a truck driver who never should have been behind the wheel. The driver, an illegal immigrant, had reportedly failed both English and road sign tests, yet still obtained a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in sanctuary states like California and Washington.
This tragedy exposes a dangerous loophole in our system: states issuing CDLs to drivers who lack the skills or legal status to operate heavy trucks, putting the public at risk nationwide. When a truck weighing 40 tons is operated by someone who cannot read traffic signs or communicate in emergencies, the consequences are catastrophic.
This is not an isolated incident—it’s a systemic failure. Lives are being put in danger because states are prioritizing politics over public safety. Highways are shared by everyone—families, commuters, truckers—and protecting them must be our highest priority.
We Demand:
- A federal investigation into how CDLs are being issued in sanctuary states.
- Immediate reforms to ensure CDL applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English, road safety, and traffic signage.
- Stronger federal oversight of state licensing practices to close loopholes that allow unqualified or unauthorized drivers on the road.
- Accountability for states that compromise safety by issuing licenses without proper standards.
Three lives in Florida are already lost. We cannot wait for another tragedy. Highways must be safe, and that begins with ensuring only qualified, legal drivers hold CDLs.
